The launch of our Children's Reading Guide for 2019, which has a heavy focus on Australian authors, to #ReadAustralian.
And to support the new Reading Guide, & LYB Day, we'll be donating $1 from every Children's book sold to the Dymocks' Children Charity, which buys books & libraries for schools that can't afford them! For the last two years Dymocks have been running the inaugural ‘Books for Kids’ campaign. The combined results from the past two years have raised enough funds to deliver over $180,000 worth of books that will go back into local communities via nominated beneficiaries, truly allowing the DCC to make a difference to children’s lives and literacy levels. Due to this success, from Saturday 3rd - Sunday 11th August, Dymocks will be repeating the Books for Kids campaign to continue helping support local literacy through the Dymocks Children’s Charities. This is a fantastic opportunity for Dymocks to reinforce our commitment to literacy in our local communities, and more importantly to Australian children.
This year’s campaign will be the same as last year- for every children’s book you buy, $1 will be donated to the DCC. The timing of this campaign works well as it will start 2 weeks before the CBCA 2019 book week running from 17th-23rd August, we see this as a key opportunity to support Love Your Bookshop day as well, as parents will likely be doing their research and books will be top of mind.

Love Your Bookshop Day is happening across Australia on Saturday 10 August. This day is all about celebrating and loving your local bookshops.
To celebrate, Readings Kids will host a special storytime with Tai Snaith, who will read from her gorgeous new picture book You Might Find Yourself. Traipse through verdant jungles, sacred desert places, unusual buildings, and underwater gardens with Tai as we explore the possibilities of the imagination.

The Bookshop at Queenscliff
At 11:00am we'll host story time for our youngest booklovers, and at 1:00pm we'll have badge-making to raise funds for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Throughout the day we'll have giveaways, and every purchase on the day will receive an entry into a draw for some terrific prizes. Competition time! As part of our celebrations for #loveyourbookshopday we are running a haiku competition.
You have until midnight on Friday 9 August to send us a haiku on the subject of "Why I Love My Bookshop".
If you haven't encountered haiku before, it is a Japanese style of non-rhyming verse that takes the form of a three line poem. The first line has five syllables, the second has seven and the third five.
Email your haiku to us at info@thebookshopatqueenscliff.com by midnight Friday 9 August. Please let us know your name, and your age if you are under 16. There will be a $30 non-transferable gift voucher for the best junior and adult entries. Winners will need to be able to collect and redeem their voucher within 30 days. We will share a selection of entries on social media and in store, and will announce the winner on Love Your Bookshop Day, Saturday 10 August. We can't wait to see your entries!

To celebrate the day we have hired a caricaturist to be in store from 10am - 1pm. Make a purchase of $30 or more in store on the day and you can have your caricature drawn with either the book you bought, or with a favourite you have brought along from home! A caricature with your favourite book will make a great keepsake, profile pic or memento of the book your child loves.
Each picture will take around 10 minutes with our caricaturist, Tony Kentuck, so if you have limited time, you can message us to book a time slot, as we will probably only be able to do a maximum of 20 in the time. All bookings for times are based on you making a purchase in store before your sitting. You can buy a great new book for yourself, a present or even a voucher for later if you can't make up your mind.

Celebrate National Love Your Bookshop Day with a Screen Free Reading Hour at Riverbend!
On Saturday 10th of August, hand over your phones for one hour (we promise we will care for them) and you will be blessed with a sublime uninterrupted screen free hour to READ.
To reward you for letting go of your device - we will gift you a $5.00 voucher towards your next book purchase.
Conditions: We will put phones in envelopes with name and time and gift you a $5 voucher to buy a book. If you can't last the hour you must give back the voucher!
Rosetta Books
Join children’s author and performer Emma Middleton for a fun-filled puppet show and storytelling featuring The Lion in our Living Room, and The Bear in our Backyard. The theatrical show is filled to the brim with audience participation, singing, dancing, and themes of friendship and fun.
Children must be accompanied by a parent.

Where the Wild Things Are Bookshop
Come and celebrate the wonder of bookshops with us on the 10th of August - Love Your Bookshop Day! Join us for author events and lots of fun competitions, including a cake baking competition and a flash fiction story writing competition! All of our events are FREE!
10am: Stardust School of Dance with Zanni Louise - learn to dance, listen to Zanni read from her books, and make a dance tiara!
11am to 4pm: Drop in for face-painting and create your own musical instruments with recycled materials.
1pm: West End Neighbourhood Scavenger Hunt
3pm: Preserving judging, Cake Off + Flash Fiction Reading. Winners will be announced!
There will also be:
- A bundle of books that you can win if you guess the number of pages
- Blind Date With a Book: make a donation to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and pick up a mystery book
- Special Love Your Bookshop badges designed by Jubly-Umph and only available for purchase on the day
- Other surprises and lots of fun!
